Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
